Stephen, however, still wrote a few more episodes for the series before leaving the franchise in 2006 after the first twelve-minute episode segments from the eleventh season were made.ĭespite the second half of the season airing in 2005, all 20 episodes were filmed and produced throughout 2003 and the first weeks of 2004. This was the final season to have Stephen White as the head writer and Randy Dalton serve as an executive producer before being replaced by Carter Crocker and Karen Barnes respectively starting with the next season. This was the first season where some episodes conclude with Barney singing " I Love You" by himself and in the second verse flashbacks are shown of kids hugging their friends and family before transitioning back to Barney as a stuffed doll. Besides Barney, this season now displays BJ and Baby Bop "breaking the fourth wall" by talking directly to the audience in some episodes. The format for episodes in this season include interruption by the dinosaurs doing various segments in front of a white background. After the girl leaves, Barney comes to life into the white background as kids from off-screen shout out his name. Instead, the theme song ends with a girl placing the Barney doll on the brick edges as she goes to play in the park. Unlike previous (and future) seasons, no title cards are displayed for an episode's title after the " Barney Theme Song". This season continues to use educational themes tailored for toddlers, which is the viewing audience. Unlike previous seasons where Barney comes to life through the children's imagination in the episodes, this season displays Barney coming to life (in front of a white background) before a group of children would appear. Starting with this season, the series starts to breakaway from the typical Barney & Friends episode format. The ninth season of Barney & Friends premiered on the PBS children's block, PBS Kids from Septemuntil and consisted of twenty episodes.
